“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.”
Ephesians 1:4-6 [emphasis mine]
The whole point of adoption is to treat someone who is not biologically your child as one who is. Some natural parents do it perfectly; some don’t; but God surely does. All the while, I knew that God loved me as His child. I assumed that He loved Jesus most of all and for me, that was just right. He deserved it after all and I was more than satisfied with the Father’s immeasurable love for us.
But I was totally blown away with God’s love when I read this verse where Jesus says that God…
“…loved them even as you have loved me.”
John 17:23b
He loves us adopted children EVEN AS He loves His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ!!! That means He loves us with the same intensity, the same constancy, the same generosity, the same depth AS HE LOVES JESUS!!! WOW!!! Once again I am floored by the love and grace of God. Who else is worthy of all our love, worship and lives? None but Him alone.
